Jameis Winston, former FSU and Bucs quarterback, secures new team in the NFL

Jameis Winston, the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New Orleans Saints quarterback, has signed a two-year, $8 million contract with the New York Giants. The deal could potentially be worth up to $16 million with incentives. Winston, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft, joins Tommy DeVito as the only quarterbacks on the Giants’ roster.

Known for his strong arm but also for his inconsistency and turnovers, Winston is looking to revitalize his career in New York. He had a standout season in 2019 with over 5,000 passing yards and 33 touchdowns, but also led the league with 30 interceptions. Winston has passed for over 24,000 yards and 154 touchdowns in his 10 NFL seasons.

Winston seems excited to start his new chapter in the Big Apple, as he took to social media with a playful nod to his past “Eat a W” pregame speech. With Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, and Joe Flacco previously mentioned as potential targets for the Giants, Winston’s signing brings experience and depth to the team’s quarterback room. The Giants are hoping Winston can help lead them to success on the field and provide stability at the quarterback position.
