Two suspects charged in connection with shooting incident at Young Park in Las Cruces

Las Cruces Police identified the three victims who died in a late-night mass shooting that occurred at Young Park. The shooting, stemming from an altercation between two groups, resulted in the deaths of Andrew Madrid (16), Jason Gomez (18), and Dominick Estrada (19). Fifteen additional victims, ranging in age from 16 to 36, sustained injuries in the incident. The suspects, Tomas Rivas (20) and a 17-year-old boy, have been arrested and charged with three counts of open murder, with additional charges expected as the investigation progresses. The juvenile suspect’s name has not been released to the media.

The shooting, which took place at an unsanctioned car show, had initial gunshots reported at 10:10 p.m. on March 21, 2025, before law enforcement arrived at the scene. There was reported “ill will” between the two groups prior to the incident, which escalated into violence resulting in casualties. The community of Las Cruces remains strong, with District Attorney Fernando Macias expressing readiness to move forward with prosecution promptly.

The two deceased victims, Madrid and Gomez, died at the scene, while Estrada passed away at the hospital. Madrid was a sophomore on the Centennial High School baseball team, as confirmed by the team’s booster club on social media. The surviving victims have not had their medical conditions updated by the police, but the Las Cruces community remains united in the face of this tragedy.
