House Floor Prepares for Vote on Bill to Improve Medicaid Access for Medically Fragile Children

The House Health and Human Services Committee unanimously passed a bill presented by Rep. Chase Tramont to provide financial relief for families with children who have ongoing medical needs. The bill aims to correct an oversight in the Home Health Aides for Medically Fragile Children program, which inadvertently made it difficult for parents to qualify for Medicaid if they were employed as home health aides. The bill will require the Agency for Health Care Administration to authorize waivers to address this issue and increase the maximum hours a home health aide can receive. Two amendments were adopted to align the legislation with federal training requirements and disregard any income earned while under the program for Medicaid eligibility. The bill is supported by various organizations in the healthcare industry.
