Miami Hurricanes Bolster Linebacker Depth with Rutgers Transfer Mohamed Toure
The Miami Hurricanes have made a significant addition to their linebacker lineup by acquiring Rutgers transfer Mohamed Toure, who announced his commitment on social media. This move comes as Toure moves from a competitive recruitment process that included offers from notable programs such as Indiana, North Carolina, and Penn State.
Toure, a New Jersey native, brings substantial experience to Miami after spending six seasons at Rutgers, despite battling injuries that sidelined him for both the 2022 and 2023 seasons. When healthy, Toure showcased his talent, earning All-Big 10 honorable mention in 2013. During that standout year, he recorded 93 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks, accumulating an impressive Pro Football Focus defensive grade of 76.4.
Throughout his college career, the redshirt senior has amassed 168 tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss, and 13.5 sacks, along with two interceptions. Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 235 pounds, Toure has been cleared to play by the Hurricanes’ medical team following rehabilitation for his ACL injuries.
Greg Schiano, head coach at Rutgers, expressed his support for Toure last year, emphasizing the challenges of football and the commitment of both the family and coaching staff to aid in his recovery. Toure also has an established rapport with Miami’s defensive coordinator, Corey Hetherman, who previously coached him.
