UCF Knights Spring Football Camp: Key Insights and Expectations for 2025 Season
The UCF Knights made noteworthy progress during their recent spring football camp, though glimpses of the incoming 2025 team were scarce under the guidance of new head coach Scott Frost. Rather than emphasizing flashy announcements, Frost is focusing on building a solid foundation for the team.
This offseason witnessed significant roster changes, with 37 players entering the transfer portal following Gus Malzahn’s departure. Many of these transitions were anticipated, paving the way for Frost to reshape the squad without fixating on star players. His strategy emphasizes developing talent with lower NIL costs, recalling successful practices from his earlier tenure at UCF.
At quarterback, the Knights are expected to see improvements after last season’s challenges, marked by a tumultuous rotation of four starters. While no clear frontrunner emerged from spring camp, transfer Tayven Jackson stands out among a competitive group that includes Jacurri Brown, Cam Fancher, and Davi Belfort.
The wide receiver position, however, remains uncertain, with less than 5% of last season’s production returning. The roster features several underclassmen, who, while inexperienced, show promise and potential for growth. Look for both transfer additions like DJ Black and Duane Thomas, and freshmen Carl Jenkins Jr. and Waden Charles to make an impact.
On defense, UCF aims for enhanced stability under new coordinator Alex Grinch, who takes charge of a unit with significant experience, particularly in the pass rush. The secondary boasts seasoned talent, bolstered by impactful transfers.
Despite Frost’s cautions about lofty expectations, a bowl game remains a feasible goal. With a manageable schedule ahead, the Knights are aiming for six wins, although exceeding that milestone might prove challenging.
