Stormy Weekend Ahead for Central Florida
Central Florida residents should brace for a rainy and potentially severe weekend as the Storm Prediction Center has issued an isolated severe weather threat for the area. The WESH 2 First Warning Weather team has declared an "Impact Weather" day for Saturday, predicting significant storm activity primarily from 4 to 10 p.m. Rainfall is expected to cover about 60% of the region, with threats of hail and wind gusts reaching up to 60 mph.
A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is currently active for Marion County until 5:30 p.m. due to these hazardous conditions. This weather has also led to airport delays; the Federal Aviation Administration announced a ground delay at Orlando International Airport, effective until 7:59 p.m. Earlier, a ground stop had been issued but expired at 3:45 p.m.
Sunday, which coincides with Mother’s Day, is expected to be equally stormy, with afternoon showers and storms also anticipated to cover around 60% of the area. A cold front moving in between Monday and Tuesday will bring more rain, with predictions of up to 70% coverage on Monday. A few scattered showers may persist into Tuesday before conditions improve.
By Wednesday and Thursday, sunshine and dry conditions are expected to return. For the most accurate local weather updates, residents are encouraged to stay tuned to WESH 2’s online and on-air forecasts. Download the WESH 2 News app for real-time weather alerts.
