Minnesota United Dominates Inter Miami 4-1 in Thrilling Match
ST. PAUL, Minn. — In a decisive performance, Minnesota United triumphed over Inter Miami 4-1 on Saturday, securing their second consecutive victory. Following a previous 3-0 win against Austin, United now boasts an impressive record of 6-2-4.
The match opened with Bongokuhle Hlongwane scoring his first goal of the season in the 32nd minute. Showing remarkable timing and skill, Hlongwane slid behind Miami’s defense to meet a well-placed pass from Carlos Harvey, finishing with a clean strike inside the six-yard box.
Minnesota doubled their lead just before halftime when Anthony Markanich netted his second goal in as many games with a well-executed header. Markanich capitalized on a flicked header from Nicolás Romero, who recorded his first assist in the MLS during his debut season.
Inter Miami, despite missing star Luis Suárez due to personal reasons, responded early in the second half. Lionel Messi scored in the 48th minute, rolling a shot past Minnesota’s goalkeeper Dayne St. Clair to reduce the deficit to 2-1.
However, the home side quickly regained control. An own goal from Miami’s Marcelo Weigandt in the 68th minute pushed the score to 3-1. Robin Lod then sealed the match in the 70th minute with another goal, marking his first of the season and bringing the final score to 4-1.
Miami, currently holding a 6-2-3 record, faced this setback following a previous 4-1 victory against the New York Red Bulls. Their only prior encounter with Minnesota ended in a loss (2-1) last June.
