(Eura, Finland) – In a tragic accident on Saturday, five individuals lost their lives when two helicopters collided mid-air near Eura Airport in southwestern Finland. Authorities reported that the incident occurred shortly after noon near the town of Kauttua, with wreckage found approximately 700 meters from Ohikulkutie road.
Detective Chief Inspector Johannes Siirilä from the National Bureau of Investigation confirmed the fatalities, stating, “Five people have died in a helicopter accident near Eura Airport on Saturday.” According to initial reports, one helicopter carried two people, while the other had three aboard. Both helicopters were registered outside of Finland—one in Estonia and the other in Austria. The Estonian Public Broadcasting (ERR) indicated that both helicopters belonged to Estonian companies, NOBE and Eleon.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the helicopters were en route to a hobby aviation event, as noted by the Pori Aviation Club. In response to the accident, a joint investigation has been initiated, led by the National Bureau of Investigation, along with local police. Authorities from both Finland and Estonia are collaborating on the inquiry to determine the cause of the collision.
