Florida Governor Signs New Laws Targeting Local Needs
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed six new bills into law as the state’s legislative session approaches its conclusion this month. Many of the laws focus on specific counties and municipalities, addressing localized issues across the state.
Among the newly signed legislation is House Bill 1103, aimed at enhancing the Intellectual Developmental Disabilities (IDD) Pilot Program. This law ensures that individuals eligible for IDD services must make an affirmative choice for enrollment, prohibiting automatic registration, with implementation set for July 1.
Another significant measure, House Bill 4007, addresses healthcare for inmates in Martin County by limiting the compensation for medical providers to 110% of Medicare rates if they lack a contract with the county. This bill took immediate effect upon signing.
House Bill 4009 allows the St. Johns County Airport Authority to officially operate under the name “St. Augustine Airport,” simplifying its identity for travelers and stakeholders.
In Citrus County, House Bill 4013 repeals a special career status system for certain sheriff’s office employees, placing them under general law protections for deputy sheriffs instead, effective immediately.
House Bill 4065 aids the City of Auburndale by conveying approximately 3.15 acres of land for recreational development, specifically Lake Ariana Park. This area will see renovations that include a new civic center, playground, and boat dock.
Lastly, House Bill 4067 provides a special license for equestrian facilities in Marion County, allowing them to serve alcohol on-site and accommodating indoor smoking, effective immediately.
These legislative actions reflect the governor’s commitment to addressing local needs while laying the groundwork for future developments across Florida.
