UCF Knights Special Teams Preview: Transformative Changes Ahead
In the latest installment of UCF football’s offseason position previews, the special teams unit is undergoing significant transformation. Entering spring camp, the Knights had a limited roster, featuring only kicker Grant Reddick and punters Michael Carter and Kevin Carrigan. By mid-April, both Reddick and Carrigan left the program during the spring transfer window, leaving UCF with just one specialist as they gear up for the upcoming season.
New special teams coordinator Pete Alamar has proactively reshaped the roster, introducing several key players. Notably, seasoned placekicker Noe Ruelas joins from James Madison, boasting a solid 77% field goal conversion rate. He will be complemented by freshman Noah McGough, a mid-year enrollee eager to establish himself.
Joining Ruelas and McGough is redshirt senior punter Anthony Venneri, a known presence on the team. The Knights also welcome walk-on Mason Denaburg, who arrives with an impressive background, having spent six seasons in the Washington Nationals’ minor-league system.
Alamar expressed optimism about the special teams’ prospects, stating, “We’re going to have the best two kickers, two punters, and two snappers that we can possibly have in the room going into fall camp.” He emphasized the team’s dedication to evaluating and enhancing their special teams unit.
The updated roster movement includes Ruelas and McGough for placekickers, Michael Carter and Venneri for punters, and senior Dalton Riggs for long snapper. Departures include key players like Reddick, Mitch McCarthy, and Kevin Carrigan.
As the Knights prepare for fall camp, the reshaping of the special teams promises to be a key focus in their quest for success this upcoming season.
