Pursuit by Florida Highway Patrol Ends in Crash in Cocoa

Press Release: High-Speed Chase and Crash in Cocoa

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A dramatic incident unfolded on Interstate 95 in Cocoa when troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) pursued a vehicle linked to street racing, resulting in a crash and a subsequent foot chase.

The events began near mile marker 191 when FHP received reports of two vehicles racing on the northbound lanes of I-95. A trooper located one of the vehicles, a 2021 Dodge Charger, driving recklessly and attempted a traffic stop. Instead of complying, the driver fled the scene, prompting the initiation of a pursuit.

The Charger exited onto State Road 520 and, moments later, collided with a 2010 Mercury Milan just east of the intersection with Cox Road. Fortunately, both the driver and passenger of the Mercury were unharmed and remained at the crash site. However, the occupants of the Charger—comprising a man and two women—abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot.

In response to the incident, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) quickly established a perimeter and initiated a search for the fleeing suspects. A BCSO helicopter was also deployed to assist in the hunt, although only one occupant from the Charger has been apprehended so far.

FHP is processing the crashed Dodge Charger for evidence as charges against its occupants are pending. Authorities encourage anyone with information regarding the incident to reach out to CrimeLine at 1-800-423-8477 or FHP at 1-407-737-2213.

This high-speed chase underlines ongoing concerns surrounding reckless driving and street racing in the region, prompting renewed calls for public vigilance.
