Despite a promising start, with Nimmo contributing a two-run double in the first and Alonso hitting his 30th home run of the season to tie the game in the fifth, the Mets’ defensive lapses proved costly. New York committed three errors in total, resulting in five unearned runs, disrupting their recent momentum following a three-game sweep of the NL East-leading Philadelphia Phillies.

Cade Gibson (3-5) offered a strong performance with 1 1/3 scoreless innings to secure the win, while Calvin Faucher closed it out in the ninth for his 13th save. Mets starter Clay Holmes also contributed to the errors, notably mishandling a throw while covering first base in the third inning, which resulted in two unearned runs.

A pivotal moment emerged in the seventh when Jakob Marsee’s single off Gregory Soto sparked a sequence of mishaps. Alonso’s error on an easy grounder allowed Marsee to score the go-ahead run following another misplay by Nimmo.
