Despite a promising start, with Nimmo contributing a two-run double in the first and Alonso hitting his 30th home run of the season to tie the game in the fifth, the Mets’ defensive lapses proved costly. Currently, the Mets sit five games behind the Phillies, who decisively beat the Atlanta Braves 19-4, and remain four games ahead of the Cincinnati Reds for the final National League wild card spot. Cade Gibson (3-5) offered a strong performance with 1 1/3 scoreless innings to secure the win, while Calvin Faucher closed it out in the ninth for his 13th save.
