Scott Stricklin Secures Three-Year Extension as UF Athletic Director

GAINESVILLE — Scott Stricklin, the University of Florida’s athletic director, has agreed to a three-year contract extension, extending his tenure through 2030. This decision solidifies his leadership of the Gators’ high-profile athletic programs, which boast a budget exceeding $200 million.

Since taking the helm in 2016, Stricklin has adeptly navigated the evolving landscape of college sports, adapting to changes like NIL regulations, SEC expansion, and revenue-sharing initiatives for athletes. Under his watch, the Gators have clinched 13 national championships, with at least one title each year, the most recent being the NCAA men’s basketball championship in 2025. The program has also secured 45 conference titles during Stricklin’s tenure.

Though the football program has faced challenges under coach Billy Napier—currently with a 19-19 record—optimism is growing. The Gators ended the 2024 season with a four-game winning streak, a promising sign as they prepare for their season opener against Long Island University. Notably, the game marks the 13th straight sellout at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, reflecting fan enthusiasm.

Stricklin’s fundraising prowess has been crucial for ambitious facility upgrades, including a $65 million baseball stadium and plans for an ambitious $1 billion renovation of the football facility. His approach contrasts with former AD Jeremy Foley’s focus on fiscal prudence.

Having been named Athletic Director of the Year by Sports Business Journal in 2020, Stricklin’s influence in college sports is recognized nationally. However, his tenure has not been without missteps, including coaching changes in women’s basketball and soccer.

With Stricklin at the helm, the future of Gators athletics looks promising as they continue to build a competitive and financially sound program.
