Cold Case Breakthrough: Father Arrested in Disappearance of South Florida Woman and Daughter
MIAMI – In a significant breakthrough in a long-unsolved case, the FBI has arrested Gustavo Castano, the father of Daniela, who disappeared alongside her mother, Lilana Moreno, eight years ago. The arrest comes after years of investigation into their mysterious vanishing in May 2016.
Lilana’s brother, Eduardo Moreno, expressed the shock of the news, stating, “It has been eight years and we haven’t heard anything from them, so it was really, really shocking and unbelievable.” From the onset, Castano had been a person of interest, initially concealing his paternity from both his own family and investigators. He claimed that on the day of their disappearance, he dropped Lilana and Daniela off near a Home Depot in Hialeah Gardens, a statement that worried relatives now suspect was fabricated.
According to sources, a federal grand jury has indicted Castano on two counts of kidnapping resulting in death, raising hopes for the discovery of Lilana and Daniela’s whereabouts. “It’s the beginning to know what happened to them and know where the location of them,” said Eduardo Moreno, emphasizing the family’s determination to find the truth.
Over the years, extensive search efforts have been undertaken, including annual vigils outside Castano’s residence, aimed at pressuring him for information. The family has remained resolute in their hope of finding the missing pair. “I’m expecting to see her back,” Moreno insists, expressing his belief that Lilana’s story did not conclude on that fateful day.
Castano is scheduled to appear before a judge in South Florida later this week as the investigation continues.
