Campaign to Legalize Recreational Pot Aims to Dispel Misinformation

With the General Election coming up, supporters of a recreational marijuana amendment in Florida are working to dispel any misinformation surrounding the measure. Smart & Safe Florida recently released an ad titled “Tallahassee Politicians” to address claims made by opponents of the ballot measure. The ad emphasizes that Amendment 3 will legalize safe, regulated marijuana for adults to use at home, decriminalize personal amounts of marijuana, and generate revenue for schools and law enforcement.

The ad directly counters claims made by the Vote No on 3 campaign, which insinuated that home-grown marijuana would be prohibited if the amendment passed. However, the proposed constitutional amendment does not address regulations on growing marijuana. The use of taxpayer money for ads against Amendment 3, funded in part by the Opioid Settlement Trust Fund, has sparked controversy.

Smart & Safe Florida spokesperson, Morgan Hill, criticized politicians for misleading the public about Amendment 3 and for using taxpayer funds for their campaign. Hill highlighted that independent fact checkers have refuted false claims made against the amendment. The ad also points out that Amendment 3 allows for further regulations by the State Legislature, including home grow and public smoking bans.

In order for Amendment 3 to pass, it requires approval from 60% of voters. Proponents of the measure are hoping to set the record straight and gain support from Florida residents in the upcoming election.
